Urus + Ishinca + Chopicalqui

Nevado Chopicalqui is the third highest peak of Huascaran mountain of the massif, located in the Cordillera Blanca, between the two peaks of the Huascaran and Contrahierbas, in the Yungay province. The trail inside the valley goes around the edge of the two beautiful, with emerald-like water lakes of Llanganuco: chinacocha (Female lake) and Orconcocha (Male Lake)

  • Day 1
    Arrival in Lima and bus to Huaraz. Reception at the airport and transfer to the bus terminal to travel for 8 hours to the city of Huaraz. It usually starts at noon to arrive at night, if you arrive in the city of Lima in the afternoon because you take the bus at night and arrive very early the next day to the city of Huaraz.
  • Day 2
    Churup acclimatization This day we go to the Churup lagoon 4 450m a good one day walk that serves us for our process of acclimatization at the same time it serves to organize all the transport logistics food transport for the following days. Night hotel in Huaraz.
  • Day 3
    Huaraz – Ishinca Base Camp 4350masl Drive about 1½ hours from Huaraz to Collon or Pashpa (3400masl). Then go up to the Ishinca Gorge on the quiet trail until the camp at the end of the valley. 4-5 hours.
  • Day 4
    CB 4350masl - Urus 5450masl - CB Ascent very quiet and used like acclimatization, about 4 hours to Urus Summit and then return to the Base Camp.
  • Day 5
    CB 4350masl - Ishinca 5530masl - CB The ascent is not sheer only 20 mts. next to the Summit. In some seasons depends the glacier condition there are short steep sections or hard ice. Return by the same trail to the Base Camp. 9-12 hours depends the physical condition.
  • Day 6
    Ishinca CB - Huaraz Descent 3 hours and then drive to Huaraz to recover energy.

    Rest day in Huaraz
  • Day 8
    Huaraz - Chopicalqui Base Camp. After driving 2h, we arrived at the final transport of Chopicalqui and then we walked from 1h to BC. From here you can see Chopicalqui and the southern and northern peaks of Huascarán.
  • Day 9
    Base Camp Chopi 4 400m - Morrena Field 4900m We will walk about 4 hours to reach the moraine field 4 900m and we will camp
  • Day 10
    Morrena Field - Field 1 5300m Chopicalqui We will walk 3 hours to reach the C1 which is 5 300m.
  • Day 11
    Field 1 - Summit - Moorish field We will ascend towards the summit and we will have about 5 hours of climbing and after staying at the summit we will descend for half an hour towards the C1 and continue one more hour towards the moraine field and camp.

    Campo moraine - Huaraz We will descend for 3 hours towards the transport and then head towards the city of Huaraz.
